Classical Five Element Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the oldest and most effective non-drug form of health care in the world. Unlike other types of acupuncture, Classical Five Element Acupuncture assesses and treats your illness and conditions at the Root Cause level.

Classical Five Element Acupuncture is an ancient form of acupuncture that treats at the levels of the Body, Mind, and Spirit. By doing so, you as the patient move back into balance and harmony within yourself, your emotions and your life as a whole.

Each of the Five Elements corresponds to a phase in the cycle of seasons: summer, Late Summer (or harvest time), Fall, Winter, and Spring. Each of us manifests these seasonal energies in our own lives as they correspond to Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood. The Classical Five Element Practitioner envisions how a person’s life would be when the Elements are functioning at a dynamic, healthy and optimal capacity. This is the perspective from which we diagnose blocks that are causing physical, emotional, mental or spirit level distress.

The ancient Chinese viewed the twelve main meridians as the Twelve Officials. Each organ in the body has a corresponding Official. They found that each Official or organ energy flow governs a part of our lives and how we function in the world. Each Official has a unique responsibility with the Body, Mind and Spirit, and each relies upon the others to contribute to the whole system.

What Can I Expect?

A Five Element Practitioner is carefully trained in understanding Natural Laws. Using the Laws of Nature to diagnose and treat assists the Body, Mind and Spirit to move back into full health and wholeness.

As a Classical Acupuncturist, Diane identifies disharmony in the qi energy of the body by using the four classical diagnostics, to “See, Hear, Ask, and Feel.” She uses pulse diagnosis and assesses Odor, Color, Sound, and Emotion to determine the root cause of your imbalance.

Diane diagnoses blocks between the meridians or conduits of energy that flow like rivers throughout the body. She assesses which of the Five Elements is predominantly out of balance and how this affects you. She will then use treatment to support your spirit through unique choices of acupuncture points. The treatment is designed to assist Nature to help you move back into balance with your Body, Mind and Spirit. This ultimately engenders health and well-being within you and ameliorates your symptoms.

Is It Safe?

There is little if any risk at all in receiving acupuncture from one who has fulfilled New York State requirements, is up to date with her/his license, and is following Clean Needle Protocol. It does not cause any ill side effects; at its worst, acupuncture will have no effect whatsoever.

Diane uses only pre-sterilized, one time use disposable needles that conform to all New York State Department of Health regulations for acupuncture.

Does It Hurt?

Many people have a fear of hypodermic needles, like those used by your physician to draw blood or inject fluids. Acupuncture needles, on the other hand, are nothing at all like hypodermic needles. Acupuncture needles are super-fine, pre-sterilized, solid, surgical-quality filaments that are inserted very superficially into the skin.

Sometimes, there is a sensation when the needle accesses the blocked qi energy of the acupuncture point. Patients have varying descriptions of this phenomenon such as: the sensation is a feeling of spreading warmth; sometimes it’s a momentary dull ache, or a slight tingle. The feelings may be different from one side of the body to the other and from one treatment to the next. There are many variables that contribute to each unique treatment.
